Challenge
A global pharmaceutical company was seeking to improve efficiencies within its manufacturing operation at one of its UK sites. An increased workload, a lack of flexibility in its resourcing needs, and a significant burden on client time to hire, train and manage a large workforce all contributed to the onsite challenges.
Solution
Firstly, Synergy Scientific Solutions – expert Functional Service Provision providers, gained a detailed understanding of the current and future skill set requirements, in line with the client’s goals and long-term vision. Based on these requirements It was proposed that a Synergy-managed insourced team, to be based within the client’s manufacturing facility, would provide the necessary skill sets, flexibility, and agility to support the client with their current challenges.
It was imperative that individuals with the right skill sets, and mindset were identified. Those involved with the project were required to have:
-
The ability to perform technical troubleshooting; to develop and improve manufacturing processes; and understand and operate complex process equipment.
-
Learning agility with the ability to retain the necessary skills and knowledge to work across multiple unit operations
-
A sound understanding of GMP, process validation requirements, secondary tech transfer and analytical methodologies.
In addition, having flexibility and the right soft skills to operate and effectively communicate across multiple units was key.
Synergy would also employ and place an experienced on-site team leader who would take on management responsibility of the insourced team, whilst also providing the client with a single point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
Initial identification of the right individuals would be driven by leveraging SRG’s expertise and over 30 years’ experience of recruiting for both the engineering and scientific sectors.
Outcome
By creating an insourced team, a multitude of key benefits were immediately observed.
These included:
-
Improvements in efficiency enabled by having cross-trained, skilled individuals who could work in more than one unit operation.
-
Agility to quickly increase or decrease resource requirements as required.
-
Flexibility in the team to work across different shift patterns.
-
Significant time and cost savings for the client.
